Coming to Detroit: School of Rock - The Musical

Class is in session, and we'll start rocking out April 10, when School of Rock - The Musical hits the Fisher Theatre.

Broadway legend Andrew Lloyd Webber’s high-octane Broadway and West End hit School of Rock – The Musical is coming to Detroit’s Fisher Theatre, April 10-22, 2018.
Tickets for School of Rock – The Musical start at $39 and are now on sale at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 800-982-2787 and online at or Tickets are also available for purchase at the Fisher Theatre box office.

School of Rock – The Musical is based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same, featuring music from the movie, as well as an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Julian Fellowes, choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter and direction by Laurence Connor.
School of Rock – The Musical opened on Broadway to rave reviews on Sunday, December 6, 2015. This Ben Brantley New York Times ‘Critics’ Pick’ “is an inspiring jolt of energy and mad skillz,” raves Jesse Oxfeld of Entertainment Weekly. And in his four-star Critics’ Pick review, Time Out’s David Cote proclaimed, “School’s IN – forever!” School of Rock – The Musical was nominated for four 2016 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score (Lloyd Webber and Slater), Best Book (Fellowes), and Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Alex Brightman). School of Rock – The Musical also won the 2017 Oliver award for Outstanding Achievement in Music.

Based on the hit film, School of Rock – The Musical is a hilarious new musical that follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pintsized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
School of Rock – The Musical features scenic and costume design by Anna Louizos, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Mick Potter and music supervision by John Rigby.
School of Rock — The Musical is produced on Broadway by Andrew Lloyd Webber for The Really Useful Group, Warner Music Group & Access Industries, The Shubert Organization and The Nederlander Organization. Nina Lannan and Madeleine Lloyd Webber serve as Executive Producers.

TIU Meet Up: The Lean Body Studio

On Saturday I attended another TIU Meet Up - grown up sorority as my friends call it. I seriously love getting together with all these lovely ladies – they’re so inspirational. This meet up was probably one of my favorites Kelsey (fellow TIU-er) was our instructor, and provided a serious booty kicking HIIT class at The Lean Body Studio. I loved how intense the workout was, and will probably sign up for some more classes on my own.  I forgot how much I LOVE HIIT workouts.

Snow Daze

You’re hot then you’re cold, Michigan please make up your mind. Warmer temperatures quickly changed to colder, ugh. I cannot wait for the weather to break and watch the leaves return to the trees. Until then you can find A and I on a snowy adventure through the woods.

Have you ever dreamt of being an entrepreneur? I know that I have. When I was younger I wanted to be a fashion designer, I dreamt of designing the chicest clothing for petite framed girls. The clothing would be paired with matching accessories – headbands of course as well as handbags. I am 4’10” so finding clothing that actually fits me properly is nearly impossible, and that’s why I wanted to come up with my own company and brand. I even spent months perfecting designs, doing research and more. Kate Spade and Lilly Pultizer easily became my clothing idols and inspiration. That dream eventually faded and as I got a little older I wanted to own a cutesy cupcake shop. Before I was born my family owned an ice cream shop, which I always thought would be neat to own, but with Michigan’s bi-polar weather that just didn’t seem like it would be the right move for me. I continued to push my passion towards creating a cupcakery. At the time cupcake shops were not a thing, however soon they popped up everywhere with Sprinkles leading the way. Now you’ll find cupcake bakeries in nearly every town, but it seems as though the trend of cupcakes is disappearing and the trend of cookie dough bars is now popping up. While becoming an entrepreneur is something I still think about, I am content working for someone else at the moment. I know a lot of you reading this are dreaming of becoming an entrepreneur and I honestly give you so much credit. There are so many inspirational entrepreneurs out there that prove when you hustle hard your dreams can come true. Whether you want to start a real estate agency, marketing firm, a place to get your car fixed and more – there are plenty of sources online to inspire you such as AdrianRubin LLC  is proof that with hard work and hustle you’ll get to where you want to be. A couple years ago I held a position in a real estate office, and heard agents speak of Adrian Rubin LLC, not having a clue who the company was I did a search, only to discover that this real estate development firm had a reputation unmatched, and was known all over the country. In this Adrian Rubin  interview you’ll  get the scoop on his brand, company and how he got to where he is. Who is your entrepreneurial inspiration? Have you read any books that have inspired you and you think I should check out?

Kroger Prep + Pared: Crispy Pork Chops

It’s official, A and I are obsessed with Kroger Prep+Pared™Meal Kits. At least once a week we head to Kroger and pick up a kit, in 20 minutes or less we have a tasty chef-designed meal. Why we love these kits, one kit feeds two (and actually is perfectly portioned for us), and the kits are affordable ranging from $14 to $20. You don’t need to raid your pantry for anything, everything you need is perfectly portioned and FRESH – can you say that about those subscriptions you get in the mail? This week we tried Crispy Pork Chops with Blistered Tomatoes and Creamed Spinach. The meal was absolutely delicious, and one we’ll definitely try again. You can check out our first experience with Kroger Prep+Pared™ Meal Kits here.

Taco Lasagna

Taco lasagna is probably one of my favorite meals to make. It’s quick, easy and reheats really easily.

Shredded cheese
Plain, nonfat Greek yogurt for topping

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Brown the meat.
3. Season with salt, pepper and chili powder.
4. When cooked add taco sauce or salsa.
5. Lay down three tortillas.
6. Top with meat.
7. Sprinkle with cheese.
8. Repeat.
9. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes.
10. Top with shredded cheese and bake until cheese is melted.
11. Cut into wedges.
12. Top with Greek yogurt.

Restaurant Review: Rochester Brunch House

Let’s do brunch. On Saturday, A and I headed to downtown Rochester to get our brunch on at Rochester Brunch House. He’s been there multiple times before, however this was my first experience. The menu was filled with plenty of delicious options from sweet to savory, and healthy to not so healthy at all. So what did we get? A got a Benny and I went all out and with Pebbles Pancakes (so worth the calories, they tasted like birthday cake).

The seven stars, each a master in their own field, are:

·       The Trickster, Jeff Hobson is the epitome of glamour and showmanship. Don’t be fooled by his innocent appearance; Jeff has audiences laughing long after the curtain goes down.
·       The Inventor, Kevin James is known for innovative illusions, is an inventor, comedian and collector of the strange and unusual. Kevin is one of the most prolific inventors of magic in the world and has created some of the most celebrated illusions of the last century.
·       The Deductionist, Colin Cloud, one of the greatest thought readers of all time is a psychic savant known as a real-life Sherlock Holmes. Don’t play against him in a game of poker – he’s never lost.

·       The Daredevil, Jonathan Goodwin, is widely considered one of the most creative, skilled, and frankly crazy stunt performers in the world. He is an accomplished knife thrower, archer, escape artist, fakir, martial artist, free diver, and free climber. Unlike the other performers in the show, Jonathan is not a magician or illusionist but he will leave the audience breathless with his death-defying stunts.

Simon Painter is a visionary creative theatrical producer who hails from London.  Simon started his career on stage as a classical violinist, and performed the lead role for Spirit of the Dance in Las Vegas. The first show he produced, Le Grand Cirque smashed box office records at the Sydney Opera House selling over 40,000 tickets in 10 days. His production of The Illusionists has already performed to record breaking crowds in theatres and arenas across the globe including Australia, Mexico, Latin America, South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
