Restaurant Review: Green Dot Stables

Located at 2200 West Lafayette in Detroit, Green Dot Stables is serving up some of the best sliders you’ll ever taste.  With a variety to select from, and a mystery meat to choose from there is sure to be something for everyone.  I know you’ll think I’m crazy, but I highly recommend trying the PB&J – the chipotle raspberry jam is amazing. Also you don’t want to miss out on the cucumbers with crème fraiche, shallots and vinegar – probably my new favorite starter.

Let's Hit the Road

*I received the Mazda Mazda6 Grand Touring for a week to test drive. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

On any given day spontaneous road trips are my absolute favorite. Recently I packed the Mazda Mazda6 Grand Touring with snacks, a few waters and hit the road.  The adventure started with a very snowy morning, but ended with beautiful blue skies. Stops included a trip to Cranberry Lake and taking Rochester Road out to Lakeville. I drove the car on paved roads as well as backcountry dirt roads and it handled both terrains like a champ. The backup camera made it easy to back the sedan out of tight areas, while the heated seats kept us warm. Here is a peek at our adventure…..

Made in Michigan: Small Business Saturday

You’ll never find me waiting in a line on Black Friday, that type of shopping just isn’t my thing at all. However, you will find me visiting some of my favorite shops supporting them on Small Business Saturday. Here are nine of my favorite local shops.

At First Glance: 2017 Mazda Mazda6 Grand Touring

*I received the Mazda Mazda6 Grand Touring for a week to test drive, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hello sporty mid-size sedan, let’s take a trip! The 2017 Mazda Mazda6 Grand Touring starts at just over $30,000 and can get up to 35 MPG – hello new little fun toy to get around in.

Hop inside and let the tour begin...

Heads-Up display:  Probably one of my favorite features; it displays your speed without even having to look down. Also it will display the speed for the area you’re in and let you know if there is a car in your blind spot as well as in front of you.

Blind Spot Alert System: Absolutely love the fact that it lets you know when a car is next to you in your blind spot, even better if you put your turn signal on and there is a car in your blind spot it beeps at you.

Backup camera: Super clear, and really nice for helping you parallel park, backup and more. What is even better is it lets you know when a car is behind you to ensure you do not hit it.

Radar cruise control: While on the expressway using cruise control it will maintain a distance between you and the car in front of you – love this feature. Lets say the car in front of you is going 60 it will drop your speed down, when that car moves it will take you back up to what you had cruise set at.

Lane departure warning system: This feature lets you know when it thinks you are unintentionally going over a line in the road, and begin to move you back. I noticed that this worked mainly on the right and hardly ever on the left. Sometimes it would move me without me being out of the lane, which I wasn’t thrilled about.

Center console: With just your right hand you can control the volume, stereo, navigation and more – which I absolutely loved.
Steering wheel mounted controls: You can access your phone, cruise control and even the volume right from the steering wheel.Heated steering wheel: I was super beyond excited about this feature, however slightly disappointed as it only works in the 10 and 2 position.

Drivers seat memory: Great feature if you share the car.
Legroom: Plenty of space in the front and the back.

Trunk Space: Ridiculous amount of trunk space, I’ll be taking this bad boy to load up on necessities at Costco.

Backseat: Rear cup holders and are you ready for it… heated seats.
Automatic windshield wipers: LOVE LOVE LOVE this, the fact that I did not have to turn my wipers on ever and knew I could rely on the car was great.

Heated seats: It gets downright cold in Michigan so I loved behind able to warm up with the seats.

The basic model of the 2017 Mazda Mazda6 Grand Touring Starts at about $31,000.  I definitely loved driving it and highly recommend it for someone who is single, a couple or even a couple with 1 or 2 small children.

Restaurant Review: Patty Burger

I recently had the opportunity to try Patty Burger in Orion Township, and let me tell you it just might be my new favorite burger joint. With so many delicious options it was so hard to choose, but I decided on the Cali Girl which is Fresh Sliced Avocado, Alfafa Sprouts, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Provolone & Wasabi Ranch (I got the ranch on the side). I also got an order Fresh Cut Sweet Potato Chips – which come tossed in their cinnamon Chipotle spice. Both of my selections were absolutely delicious. Dessert was Patty's Sweet Bites, aka little balls of sweet fried dough heaven... yum! What makes Patty Burger unique is they have a full bar and boozy milkshakes, hello new favorite date spot!

Restaurant Review: Chartreuse

Seedling Farms Pears
bosc, raspberries, tart cherries, cider, maple, almonds and bleu cheese

It’s the perfect time of year to head to a dinner and a show around Detroit, and recently I discovered an absolutely amazing restaurant -  Chartreuse.  Chartreuse Kitchen and Cocktails is located in Detroit and features a menu that changes daily based on the seasonality and availability of the freshest local ingredients. Two things I really loved about Chartreuse is they do not have a freezer, therefore everything is super fresh, and the restaurant is created to order a few plates and share them.  What did we order? Short Ribs (special of the day), Seedling Farms Pears, Madagascar Vanilla Pudding and Key Lime Pot De Crème.   Let me tell you, the food was insanely fresh and the flavors were out of this world. The Madagascar Vanilla Pudding was probably one of the best desserts I have had in a really long time. I highly recommend checking out Chartreuse even if it’s just for dessert.

Short Ribs

Madagascar Vanilla Pudding
Made with bourbon chantilly lemon basil syrup and rosemary basil cookies

Key Lime Pot De Crème
Michigan blueberries, graham cracker, sea salt and a chocolate bar

Seven Ponds Nature Center

When you wake up to your car dusted in snow you know it’s time to accept that your favorite season is quickly coming to an end. With leaves barely hanging onto the trees we decided to take a little trip to SevenPonds Nature Center in Dryden.  Seven Ponds features 486 acres, which contains, glacial lakes, ponds, marshes, fields, woodlands and prairie.  For the most part the trees were bare, and the ponds were frozen over with a thin layer of ice. We did see quite a few deer and some neat birds. As much as I don’t want to say this, I cannot wait for a snow-covered adventure around the Seven Ponds.
