Rumor had it that Friday and Saturday the Northern Lights
were going to be shining bright – even down here in the Metro Detroit area.
Obviously if there was any chance of seeing them it would be a must to skip
town and get away from light pollution, and that’s just what we did. With a car
full of blankets, pillows and a cooler (he was prepared – I wasn’t for probably
the first time in my life), we headed out of the city and into the thumb (perk
of living in a hand shape state this is really how we speak – and point to
where we live on our hand). I have never been anywhere in the thumb before, so
even though it was dark it was still a neat adventure. While we didn’t get to
see the Northern Lights (heart breaks slightly), we did see a ton of stars
dance across the sky, and watched the moon come up from the horizon, which was
probably one of the coolest things I have seen in awhile. We also took a little
walk on the pier, and drove through some adorable towns. While chasing the
Northern Lights was a fail the night was more than I could have ever asked for.
