Dessert at Iridescence

I have talked a lot about Iridescence and now I want to talk about my favorite part dessert. Honesty I highly recommend this place for date night, especially if you like dessert.

The Melting Chocolate Sphere is where it’s at…. a dark Belgian chocolate sphere, dusted with strawberry powder, filled with a rich flourless chocolate cake and fresh raspberries served with a caramel sauce. This sphere is most delicious way to spend date night or a night on the town with the girls.

I also tried the Pineapple Upside Down Cake and let me tell you this is not your mama’s traditional pineapple upside down cake. This cake is served with crème fraiche ice cream, oven roasted pineapple, a pineapple chip and vanilla sauce… definitely a must try!

Love Never Dies - The Phantom Returns

Get excited Detroit Love Never Dies will open it's North American Tour at Detroit's Fisher Theatre on October 17 with performances through October 29!

Tickets for Love Never Dies start at $39 and will go on sale on Sunday, June 11 at all Ticketmaster locations, by phone at 1-800-982-2787 and online at www.broadwayindetroit.com or www.ticketmaster.com Starting Monday, June 12, tickets will also be available for purchase at The Fisher Theatre Box Office.

The new touring production will reflect an extensive re-working of the material by an Australian creative team for the original Australian premiere in 2011. Described by Chris Boyd in The Australian as “The best thing Lloyd Webber has written in the quarter century since The Phantom of the Opera”.

Directed by Simon Phillips (Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical) with new set and costume designs by Gabriela Tylesova, choreography by 2011 Astaire Awards winner Graeme Murphy, lighting design by Nick Schlieper and sound design by Mick Potter, the show is one of the few instances of a major West End musical being given a complete makeover for subsequent productions.

Lloyd Webber said he knew about five minutes into seeing its first run-through that he and the new production team had achieved something special. “I have the great joy of being able to say that I think this production is probably the finest one I could ever, ever hope for.”

The year is 1907.  It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak shows of Coney Island. In this new, electrically charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar, but he has never stopped yearning for his one true love and musical protégée, Christine Daaé.

Now one of the world’s finest sopranos, Christine accepts an invitation to travel from Paris to New York to perform at a renowned opera house. Christine's marriage to Raoul is suffering at the hands of his drinking and gambling and they desperately need the financial rewards that America can give them.

In a final bid to win back Christine’s love, the Phantom lures her, Raoul, and their young son Gustave, from Manhattan to the glittering and glorious world of Coney Island - not knowing what is in store for them.

Since its premiere in 2010, Love Never Dies has enjoyed productions worldwide in London, Australia, Denmark, Japan and Germany, as well as multiple recordings including a concept album and a London cast recording. A DVD release of the Australian production has delighted fans globally, and now the North American tour brings the musical to the US for the first time.

Phone Snap Round Up

Date night revealed the most gorgeous sunset.

I was recently talking to a friend about photos and how we used to capture moments, get the film developed and frame the pictures or place them in an album. Now our pictures live in Instagram and Facebook feeds. I have so many pictures in my phone that either never got posted anywhere, or have more of an explanation than can fit into an Instagram story caption. I decided I wanted to share more of the things that I don’t share….. from adorable pictures of Jack to outfits I tried on in a Target dressing room, and everything in between – here we go!
Peonies are poppin' in my parents backyard.
Seriously cannot get over this sunset.

 Peony garden was absolutely gorgeous

Loved the trails in Ann Arbor

Restaurant Review: Iridescence

Iridescence is one of those restaurants that you put on your bucket list to visit. It’s located on the 16th floor of the MotorCity Hotel and Casino in Downtown Detroit. Their menu is out of this world, and the food is to die for (especially the desserts, but we’ll talk about those next week). Iridescence offers a breathtaking view of the city, and is the only AAA 4 Diamond Award-winning restaurant in Detroit. Without further ado, let’s talk about the food.
I began the evening with a light and refreshing cucumber ginger martini (non-alcoholic), which I highly recommend!
Followed by the Stuffed Squash Blossom, which is made with house-made ricotta, roasted mushrooms (AMAZING) and soubise. The presentation was gorgeous and the blossoms were in better.
I then transitioned to the “Wedge” Salad, which comes with bacon, hazelnuts, pickled red onions, radishes and Roquefort dressing (I substituted the dressing for cucumber ranch).
Moving right along to the main course of a 6-ounce barrel cut filet with whipped potatoes (oh my word, so good!) and wild forged mushrooms (these were the best mushrooms I have ever had).
Hands down one of the best meals and restaurant experiences I have ever had. This restaurant makes the perfect date night (just wait until you find out about the dessert!), night out with girlfriends and more!

Favorite Hike Outfit

Into the woods I go to lose my mind and find my soul. I was never much of the nature type. In fact I used to hate being outside, that is until I went away to Northern Michigan University and really discovered myself and that collecting moments actually means more to me than collecting things. Anytime I get the opportunity to go hike, even if it’s a flat trail through the woods I take the opportunity, and I have come to discover that I have a particular outfit that I tend to wear. Let’s start with the pants, since baby got back up in here I love a yoga pant that actually hugs my booty. I discovered that Athleta yoga pants really hug my booty and prevent it from bouncing – which I love especially when running. Now let’s talk tops, lately I have been obsessed with wearing the Crane and Lion Racerback tank pair with the Waffle Crew. The long sleeve helps prevents my arms from getting scratched up when hiking through tougher terrain, and it’s so easy to just take off and walk around with a tank on. Both the tank and crew are super soft and very comfortable. Lasting I am obsessed with BEARPAW Gracie shoes, they take in ZERO sand, which I absolutely loved!

Nichols Arboretum Peony Garden

Step foot into what seems more like a fairytale than reality when you walk into the Peony Garden at the Nichols Arboretum in Ann Arbor. Over the weekend I took a little road trip to Ann Arbor to get lost in the enticing smell of peonies and colorful array of peonies. Here is a peek at my adventure….
