Beautiful Braids & a Giveaway

Friday Finally? Well it's bittersweet that it's Friday. My daddy is coming into town today to go to the Bucco's game with the boy and I tonight. He'll be taking me back to the mitten on Saturday with him. I have a love hate relationship with home... for the next three weeks that I will be home I will most likely have a hate relationship with it. I must be strong though!!!

Any food ideas, or ways to stay focused that you know and I do not...please share!!!

  3. I couldn't imagine going home for 3 weeks and living with my parents. But, try to make the best of it while you can. You may never get the opportunity to pretend to be a kid again ;-)

    I have a food processor, but use the poor thing so much that a companion would be awesome especially when I'm making meals that require multiple things being processed. That would save lots of time having to wash and dry it over and over.

  7. I made my sister sit still for hours while I taught myself how to french braid hair. I can't do it on myself, but I love doing it! My wedding hairstyle is going to have a little braid in it too!

  8. I love braids too! French braiding is really easy once you get the hang of it. Here is how I do it... I start with a small braid, then once I am finished I continue using that little braid to make another braid, and the little braid is the middle piece of the 3 pieces. Does that make sense?!

  16. Mexican Wedding Cookies

    Ingredients

    Makes 20.

    * 1 cup almonds, plus 40 more for decorating
    * 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    * 1/4 teaspoon salt
    * 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    * 8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
    * 2 1/4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
    * 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
    * 1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract
    * 1 large egg white, beaten

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread 1 cup almonds on a baking sheet; toast until fragrant, about 12 minutes. Let cool.
    2. Put toasted almonds, flour, salt, and cinnamon in a food processor; process until almonds are finely chopped, about 1 minute. Set aside.
    3. In the bowl of a mixer fitted with the paddle, cream butter and 1 cup confectioners' sugar on medium until pale and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Add vanilla and almond extracts, and mix until combined. Add the almond mixture, and mix on low until dough just comes together.
    4. Roll dough into twenty 1 1/2-inch balls; place on ungreased baking sheets, spaced 2 inches apart. Flatten each ball slightly with your palm.
    5. Toss 1 tablespoon beaten egg white and remaining 40 whole almonds in a small bowl to coat. Press two almonds into each cookie.
    6. Bake cookies until lightly browned around the edges, about 25 minutes. Transfer baking sheets to a wire rack; let stand until cool enough to handle.
    7. Place remaining 1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar in a medium bowl. Roll warm cookies in sugar, reserving any remaining sugar. Return cookies to baking sheets. Let cookies cool 15 minutes, and roll again. Store in an airtight container up to 1 week.

  44. Easy Peasy Hamburger casserole that gives you plenty of time to cuddle with your honey while it cooks

    Oven needs to be set to 400

    1-1 1/2 lbs of hamburger meat

    diced onion (fresh or dried)

    1-2 cans of cream of onion or cream of mushroom depending on your preference

    1 bag of Tater Tots

    Shreaded cheese (optional)

    Take the hamburger meat and mash in the onion in the bottom of a 9x9 casserole dish

    On top of the hamburger and onion mix pour the can(s) of soup and spread evenly

    Then on top of all that spread evenly the tater tots

    Cook in oven for an hour

    Last 5 minutes, if you want, sprinkle the shreaded cheese on top...as much or as little as you like!

    Very yum and very easy!

  65. OOoh! I've always wanted one of them bad boys. I have a very tiny kitchen but we're moving to CZ in a month and a bit, where I will be the ruler of the massive (but empty) kitchen. As I am a devious, experimental cook I was going to get on of them but it would be even nicer to win one! wow

    And I am a loyal follower of your blog. And I like you on FB :) (Amber)

    A recipe for the wedding recipe book? Well how about a vodka shot jello dessert? They're fun, colourful and yet elegant.

    All you need is.. oranges, vodka and different flavour jello.

    1. Cut the oranges in half and with a spoon, scoop out the flesh, leaving only the skin. Leave this aside (store in fridge preferably)

    2. Prepare the jello, preferably orange-flavoured but any flavours will do really (for the colourful effect), and add some vodka (personal taste).

    3. Pour the mixture into the orange shells and refrigerate till the jello hardens. When it is done, simply slice the halves into halves again. I found a sample pic online here http://www.cremebrulee.com/graphics/fruit.jpg

    Crunchy Chili Cheese Chicken Tenders

    4 skinless, boneless chicken breast.
